Retail assistant turned personal trainer, Rachel Russel, is living out her dream career at the age of 50.
New Zealand Institute of Sport (NZIS) graduate, Rachel, proves that it’s never too late to pursue a new career path.
What pushed Rachel to pursue tertiary study at the age of 50? After being made redundant as a retail assistant at Bunnings, the mother of two was put under financial pressure – forcing her to rethink her career.
This led her to pursue her passion for fitness with NZIS – following the steed of her inspirational personal trainer.
With a Level 5 Diploma in Sport, Recreation and Performance, Rachel has broadened her skillset from retail to personal training, and is currently employed as a personal trainer at CityFitness in Ashburton.
When asked what advice she would give other mature students, Rachel shared: “You only have one life. Do what you want to do, not what you have to do.”
